It has been Five years Diddy Nigeria stepped out in style as a designing company determined to take Nigerian arts to greater heights. They claim to have plans to make Diddy Nigeria better than Tommy Hilfiger and also promote Nigeria beyond the shores of the country.
The family which transcends a mere family with its philosophy as ‘Life is Art; and all other things, has been able to make contributions in Nigerian designing, and as a measure of their success they have been able to make a mark in Nigerian designing as the talented young men; Chisom, Oluchukwu, Chijioke, Chima and Jide appear to have worked for a lot of stars both International, Locally and co-operate organizations, some of who are; ludacris, Akon, Tu face Idibia, D Banj, Kc Presh, Ayo shonaya, DJ Abawss, Africa China, Edris Abdukareem (Don’t disrespect my passport), JJC, 419 Squard , Asha and Co-operate bodies like Whao Beverage, Hip Hop Magazine, Atlantic Bank Johnson Wax and others.
Specialising in T- shirts, Jeans, Foot wears, Logos, hand bands, Wristbands, Frames, the Company they say intends to promote Nigeria having their name as Diddy Nigeria, "we are proud of Nigeria and its colour, green white green and we intend to promote it", living up to their words they make use of locally made materials as the ban on importation has made them realise the importance of using local materials in designing as a means to promote the country.
"We plan to wipe off foreign labels" they say, as they have made efforts to inculcate into Nigerians the important of local designs, which the started by going to schools trying to sell their designs, which latter improved to costuming TuFace’s Album- ifinayi Bia and also the costuming of the background for KC Presh’s video –National Anthem.
Having a feeling that they have made a head way with their company, they described the way they started; The Label was started by Chisom before we joined him, that is the reason Diddy Nigeria got it’s name from him. We started formally as a group in 2000/ 2001 in schools like FUTO, IMSU, UNILAG and others where we designed clothes, shoes and other things for students. At that time we were underground, until we met Kenny and D1 who made a positive turn in our Company. They encouraged us to meet stars, since the name of the designing company is Diddy Nigeria and kind of represented Nigeria.
Our family stayed strong irrespective of the challenges we faced, we have our different posts, like Chisom is the director, Chimed-Operations Manager, Chijioke-Marketing Manager, PRO- Oluchukwu, Sales and promotions- Jide, even at that we are still like brothers.
"It was not easy then, as we had to go through some financial hard times, although our Families and our sister Sandra Achums, supported us the much they could do. But our meeting with D1 gave us the opportunity to costume Tu Face’s Album (Ifinayi bia) and also to costume the background for KC Presh’s video, since then God has been our strength.
"We have since then worked for many stars, for instance we did a shirt for Ludacris and Akon when they came to Nigeria, we are really proud of our colour green white green. "Diddy is crazy about Nigerian concepts" by working for these international stars we belief we are promoting not only Diddy Nigeria but the Country as a whole, because most of the people we worked for, took them back to their countries and we usually get calls like we love your work and we will like you to do some designs for us.
"We have been able to make some progress. We now have branches in Botwana and South Africa added to that we foresee a time Diddy Nigeria will be able to wipe out foreign labels".
We have a vision backed up with a mission, which is to promote arts and local Artists in the country and also to do better than Tommy Hilfiger.
We belief that in years to come Diddy Nigeria will be a company to reckon with and it will be a household name, doing the colour green white green proud in other countries.
