YENAGOA — FORMER Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State is to return to the state tomorrow for the first time since his impeachment and subsequent detention two years ago.
Chief Alamieyeseigha who was released from jail a month ago and returned to the country from Dubai, United Arab Emirate on Monday is to be accorded a grand reception in his Amassoma hometown.
The event which is expected to attract prominent Ijaw and former associates of the former governor is billed for the community secondary school play ground under the chairmanship of Chief Pere Ajuwa, presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the last election.
Chief Alamieyeseigha travelled to Dubai soon after his release from jail last month to conclude his treatment that was cut short following his forced deportation to Nigeria at the instance of the EFCC.
Coordinator of the Ijaw Monitoring Group, Comrade Joseph Evah, said yesterday the reception was put together by his family in conjunction with the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta people.
Chief Alamieyeseigha travails, he said, should be a lesson for other leaders to learn from, adding: "We have no quarrel with anybody over what happened to him (Alamieyeseigha) because he used his own hand to cause his problem to some extent."
