EFCC Opens Bids for Tafa’s Seized Houses


Public bids for the purchase of some choice property ceded to the Federal Government by Mr Tafa Balogun, former Inspector General of Police, were opened in Lagos yesterday.

One bid each was recorded for 10 of the 13 property advertised by Diya, Fatimilehin & Co., a reputable firm of Estate Surveyors and Valuers retained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to sell the property through a transparent process.

Before the process began, Mr Chidi Nwachukwu of Diya, Fatimilehin & Co., who presided over the event, read a letter from EFCC, which withdrew a property, four bedroom house and boys quarter on Plot 14488, Cadastraal Zone A5, Fugar, Asokoro Area, Abuja, from the bid process, "because it was still being investigated."

Nwachukwu said there is a government reserved price for each of the property and that no winner would emerge until the benchmark was reached.

"If the reserved price is not met, then, such property would be re-advertised, but the current bidder would be given an option of first choice to up the bid," he said.

The bids were opened, at the Muri Okunola Street office of Diya, Fatimilehin & Co. on Victoria Isand, by Miss Nkeiru Amangbo, a staff of the company, after thorough inspection of every envelope by everybody present, including representatives of most of the bidders, under the watchful eyes of Mr Wilson Uwujaren of EFCC's Media Unit.

The bid documents showed that only one company, Kuallet Nigeria Limited, Lagos, bidded N96 million for a property on Plot 10, Block A3, Olusegun Aina Street, Ikoyi, Lagos, a five-bedroom detached house and two room boys quarters, and one bid of N250 million by Sifax Nigeria Limited was recorded for 9, Olusegun Aina Street, Park View Estate, lkoyi, Lagos, which is a block of six (No) 3three - bedroom flats.

Others are Plot J54B, VGC, Ajah. Lagos 5 Bedroom Detached House and Boys Quarters, for which Nsofoh John Chimezie bidded N51 million; Four bids were received for No. 12. Ikoyi Crescent. Lagos, a 6 Bedroom Detached House with Club House, Guest Chalet and Boys quarters. The first bid opened was N380 million from Matbeny on Ajose Adeogun Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos; Fadco Nigeria Limited at Ligali Ayorinde N550,250,200; International Energy Insurance Company, Victoria Island, Lagos N380 million and Dr. Jude O. Amefule, Victoria Island N405 million.

Only one bid of N50 million was received for the property on 34. Oki Balogun Street. Magodo Estate Lagos, a 2 Wings Dunlex with Separate Boys quarters. In Abuja, only one person, Sani Shehu Idris bidded N22 million for on flat in the property on Plot 110, Tunis Street, Zone 6, which has eight, 5 Bedroom Flat each with 2 room Boys Quarters. The remaining seven flats would be advertised for sale, said Mr. Nwachukwu.

Five bids were received for the property on Plot 2220, Suez Crescent, Wuse Zone 4 (Sani Abacha Estate), which has five, 5 Bedroom Detached House with boys quarters. The first of N50 million was from Anelco Resources Limited, Port Harcourt; Mohammed Bello Sulaiman bidded N42.1 million; Dr. Benson Ayodele Cole of Gimbya Street Area 11, N36 million; Emmanuel Ozigbo, Port Harcourt, N40 million and Otunba and Mrs. A.A. Oshibogun, Abuja, N36 million.

Only Adedeji Oluwatosin, Port Harcourt, bidded N10 million for the property on Plot 1471, Justice Mamman Nasir Street. Asokoro Abuja, which consists of two, 5, Bedroom Detached House.

A single bid of N250 million was presented by Shakira Plaza Tenants Nigeria Limited for a property on Plot 1029, Michika Street, Garki II (Shakira Plaza) Abuja, which has Office Suites of various sizes; and Yashua Plaza Tenants Limited bidded N150 million for another property on Plot 1046, (Yashua Plaza), Wuse 11, Abuja, with Office Suites of various sizes.

Two properties, along with the withdrawn one in Abuja were not bidded for and these are a Detached House with ample compound space on Plot 75, Asokoro District, and a Detached House with ample compound space on Plot 2262B, Maitama District A6.

These two would be re-advertised along with others after the exercise on appropriate pricing is concluded, said Nwanchukwu.
