Three robbery suspects were on Monday burnt to death in Lagos.
The three robbers, whose identities could not be ascertained, incurred the wrath of passers-by after robbing a medical doctor at Maza Maza area of Mile Two in Ojo Local Government Area of the state. Also, two members of a three-man robbery gang were felled on Monday in crossfire with the Police in Lagos. One other accomplice was arrested alive with bullet wounds.
Police sources said the three bandits, who were operating on a motorcycle in a traffic hold-up along Ozumba Nbadiwe, Victoria Island, Lagos and armed with guns, engaged Anti-Robbery Policemen attached to Victoria Island Division in a gun duel.
At the Maza-Maza scenario, eyewitnesses said the armed bandits numbering five ambushed the doctor (names withheld) at 10 p.m. along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and made away with his valuables.
But luck ran out on the robbers who immediately fled the scene of robbery as passers-by reportedly gave them a hot chase and eventually apprehended three of them at Maza-Maza Bus Stop.
"The five robbers after dispossessing the doctor of his valuables immediately took to their heels but passers-by pursued them and caught three of them at Maza Maza Bus Stop and set them ablaze," an eyewitness said.
It was gathered that the angry mob defiled all police efforts to shield the robbers from being lynched as the mob instantly set them ablaze. "All efforts by some policemen present to stop them from being lynched failed as the angry mob resisted and set them ablaze," an eyewitness said.
However, one of the other two robbers was said to have jumped into the nearby river while the last one escaped.
