President Olusegun Obasanjo Monday held a closed-door meeting with two operatives of the London Metropolitan Police who are in Nigeria for further investigation in the money laundering case over which Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State is being held in London.

President Olusegun Obasanjo Monday held a closed-door meeting with two operatives of the London Metropolitan Police who are in Nigeria for further investigation in the money laundering case over which Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State is being held in London.

The British investigating officers were led to the Presidential Villa by the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu.

In a brief chat with State House correspondents after the meeting, the EFCC chairman described the meeting as successful and beneficial to Nigeria, he however, declined to make further comment on the matter.

An attempt by newsmen to speak with the visiting British security men was thwarted by Ribadu who pleaded that they be spared.
The encounter between Ribadu and the newsmen in the villa is as follows:

How did the meeting go?
It went well, very progressive and very good for the country.

Any relief on the way? How much of it and when is it coming?
It is coming.

How long are your guests going to be around?
Just two days, two or three days.

What is their mission here?

The Crown Prosecution Service had, during the resumed hearing of the Bayelsa governorís case last Friday, asked for four weeks adjournment to enable Metropolitan Police officers travel to Nigeria for further investigation into the case.

Alamieyeseigha is still fighting at Southwark Crown Court to be granted bail having been remanded in prison custody over money laundering to the tune of one 1.8 million pounds. He was arrested last September 15.
