Obasanjo calls for injection of ecological funds into natural disasters
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday called on the Federal Government to give urgent and adequate attention to natural disasters by having the ecological funds deployed to ameliorate such ugly incidents.
Mr Obasanjo spoke with journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, while reacting to the Ibadan flood disaster which claimed the lives of over 100 people with properties worth millions of naira destroyed. He explained that any weather disaster that could lead to loss of lives required speedy attention.
“I want to call on the Federal Government to pay attention to the disaster and I want to say that the Federal Government should use ecological funds in paying attention to the Ibadan flood disaster, as well as any other identified weather disaster,” he stated.
“I want to also commiserate with families of those who lost their lives to the flood disaster in Ibadan. It is worrisome to have lost over 100 people and properties to the incident. Any weather condition that can lead to loss of lives needs Federal Government attention,” Mr Obasanjo stated.
