Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Engr Tele Ikuru with State Head of Service, Mrs Esther Anucha, during a two-day workshop on development of anti-corruption strategy organised by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, on Monday.

The Rivers State Government has attributed the current irregular power supply being experienced in the Port Harcourt Township area of the state to the loss of a 45MVA power transformer at Oyigbo switch yard.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Barrister M. M. West disclosed this in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

Barrister West who said that the switch yard was under the control of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), however, said that efforts were being made by the government to ensure that normal power supply was restored to the area before the end of this month.

The Permanent Secretary further explained that PHCN which had embarked on load shedding of the various areas, was also installing a new 60MVA power transformer of PHCN 24.

He, however, said that Port Harcourt Township which is at present getting power supply from Afam, would begin to get direct power either from Trans-Amadi or the Omoku Gas Turbine, the moment the turn-in turn-out construction was completed at Oginigba PHCN 2.

Barrister West solicited the support of the general public.
