Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has decided to keep mum over the face-off between his daughter, Iyabo, and the Ogun state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, P.M.News has authoritatively gathered.

An impeccable source, close to the Ota-based former president, revealed that Obasanjo, who was on a peace mission to the Congo Democratic Republic (CDR), when the incident happened in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, was said to have simply stated that “Iyabo is big enough to take care of herself.”

In his usual character, the former president was said to have personally invited Iyabo to properly brief him on what transpired between her and Gbenga Daniel, and she narrated her own side of the story. After that, Baba was said to have told her that she was capable of leading her life the way she wanted.

Our source, however, revealed that it was believed by Obasanjo’s family and associates that the governor was not really after his former Commissioner for Health, but indirectly spiting her father, who was his political mentor.

An associate of Chief Obasanjo’s, who spoke with P.M.News in confidence, this morning, said “if Daniel was not aiming at Obasanjo, why has he not tried to reach him and report Iyabo’s alleged misdemeanour to him?

“In Yorubaland, it is a known adage that you send a message to the deaf through the child. That’s exactly what we believed Daniel was doing. Baba has decided not to speak on the issue as he has told Iyabo that she is grown up enough to know her right from her left,” the Egba high chief stated.

Meanwhile, Owu indigenes in Abeokuta have reaffirmed their confidence in Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, saying nobody can recall her from the National Assembly, as being widely speculated in the state.

The indigenes, who rose from an extraordinary meeting last Friday, over an alleged attempt by the state government to “force” people to sign anti-Iyabo documents, dared the state government to continue with the exercise.

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, who has just returned from an international conference in Netherlands, however, told P.M.News ,this morning, that she had no comment for now, saying, “my brother, I will speak at the appropriate time. But right now, I’m following the instruction of the PDP leadership.”
